About the GEPAM Program
Do you struggle to stay physically active? Are you tired of dieting and punishing workouts? Would you like to take care of your body and treat it with the love and respect it deserves?
If your answer is ‘yes’, our Golden Eagle Physical Activity Mentoring (GEPAM) program is for you! GEPAM is a peer mentoring program that helps you make physical activity and wellness a reality. Through one-on-one sessions (either virtually via Zoom or in-person), our peer mentors will help you explore ways to make physical activity fun, meaningful, and worthy of your time. Each session will last approximately 30 minutes and you can sign up for either 1 session or 4 weekly sessions (one session per week for 4 consecutive weeks).
GEPAM is free for the Cal State LA community and beyond (i.e., friends of the Cal State LA community!). You can learn more about the program by exploring this website or following us on Instagram (@calstatelagepam)! If you have any questions, comments, or concerns please feel free to reach out to us at gepam@calstatela.edu.
**GEPAM is not a personal training program. Rather, GEPAM peer mentors help you explore your relationship with physical activity through conversation. Moreover, GEPAM promotes physical activity through a non-diet, body-inclusive approach. This means we are committed to dismantling diet culture and making sure all bodies are treated equitably with love, appreciation, and respect!**

GEPAM Mentee Testimonials
“My physical activity thoughts/patterns have changed in a positive way because my peer mentor reminded me the importance of what makes me happy. Such as certain physical activities have helped me become in a better mood and have relieved stress from school. Also taking small steps to achieve my goals is important.”
“My experience has been top notch wonderful, I learned more things about myself (self care, diets, exercises activities, work and life balance) and my mentor was the best I could ever ask for. She listened, she never once judged me or made me feel uncomfortable, or sad.”
“I now have a positive attitude about working out. I was also able to develop different ways of exercising outside of what I normally do.”
“It wasn’t based off of a ‘just do it’ mentality. It was well thought out and with understanding my own ideas and getting assistance with how to go about it.”
“I like the positive energy and guidance this program provided. It was helpful in helping me better understand why physical activity is important to me. It has motivated me to increase my physical activity. I also like how consent is repeatedly asked. It gives me a sense of security and comfort.”
“I had an amazing mentor. The questions I was getting asked was the reason why I became aware of my barriers. From my mentor and I’s conversations I had to really think in every session, which made me learn more about myself throughout the sessions.”
“I definitely don’t believe in dieting as much and I’m starting to include all physical activity as good activity as long as it’s got me moving.”
“I really enjoyed chatting with someone who was my age about how I could improve my health and fitness. It was not shaming at all and really movitated me to do better with my body. It helped me build some more self-confidence”
